Debora Coombs Criddle

I make stained glass windows from a mosaic of mouth-blown colored glass. Each individual piece is hand-painted and kiln-fired several times to fuse the imagery permanently into the glass. Painted pieces are fitted between lead channels, soldered and puttied. I use brushes, tools and materials largely unchanged since Medieval times.

Here's a video short of creating a stained glass portrait of Sir Edmund Hillary (from my Menfolk series); and 12 raccoons for an astronaut; photographs of religious commissions, including two 25ft windows for Marble Church in NY City; and stained glass for homes, public buildings and exhibitions.
